New Plymouth Hospice, a healthcare facility located on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island (approximately 360 km south of Auckland) that provides compassionate end-of-life care, decided to utilise funds raised from the community to install solar at its hospice facility and its charity store to reduce operational costs and to make a positive impact on the environment by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar One, a FIMER Certified Installer, partnered with the Hospice to develop an energy solution that would assist them in reducing their operating costs from day one. Solar One designed and installed the 65.12 kW solution that incorporated:

  • 176 x 370 W Canadian solar panels
  • 3 x FIMER PVS-20 string inverters

The FIMER PVS-20 three-phase string inverter is FIMER's latest top-of-the-line solar inverter and part of the PVS-10/33 C&I range, available in six power sizes from 10 kW up to 33 kW. Designed and manufactured in Italy, the PVS-20 comes with either 2 or 4 Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) inputs, with two string input pairs per MPPT, and can be oversized by 145%, which provides flexibility when designing the solution.

The PVS-20 also comes with a fuse-free design to ensure reliability, reduce maintenance hassles, and, alongside a full 10-year replacement warranty (for installs in Australia and New Zealand), offers peace of mind for years to come.

The system is connected to FIMER's Aurora Vision monitoring solution, which enables New Plymouth Hospice and Solar One real-time monitoring, remote management, data analysis and troubleshooting through its Plant Portfolio Manager and Energy Viewer app.

Since commissioning the system twelve months ago, the 65.12 kW system has generated over 94 MWh, enabling New Plymouth Hospice to save over 60% or approximately 23,000 $ (NZD) in their energy costs and prevent over 81 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
